Long Sisters Compete For Silverware At 116th Utah Women’s State Amateur Championship

SALT LAKE CITY – Berlin and Aadyn Long enter this year’s Utah Women’s State Amateur Championship with high aspirations of collecting silverware.

Berlin is a soon-to-be freshman at BYU and is looking to better last year’s runner-up finish to former BYU teammate Lila Galea’i while younger sister Aadyn is hoping to progress further than her semifinal finish a year ago.

But neither feel pressure entering this year’s event, rather, they are both more motivated than ever before to perform well at one of Utah’s premier golfing events.

This year’s Utah Women’s State Amateur field is boosted with the return of Arizona State freshman Grace Summerhays who missed last year’s tournament despite winning the event in 2020.

The Ogden Golf & Country Club

This year’s event is being hosted by the Ogden Golf and Country Club, which both sisters saw for the first time on July 21st during a media event.

“I think the course sets up really well for match play, there are a lot of good birdie looks out there. I like it a lot, actually, small greens with a lot of slope and a really good golf course,” Berlin told KSL Sports.

A Long Family Affair

Both players hope to meet one another in the championship match, which would bring a lot of joy to the Long household. Aadyn is far more relaxed on the golf course and admits that she would have a lot more fun than her older sister. But nevertheless, if they were to draw each other it would be a first in a competitive tournament.

Opening pairings of the 116th Utah State Amateur have made the turn at Ogden Golf & Country Club in todays stroke play qualifying round. The low 32 players will move on to match play Tues-Thurs.

“I would not want to draw Aadyn early on, but I think it would be fun, we have never actually been able to play one another in a competitive match,” Berlin said.

“I think it would be fun, but only if we met each other in the semifinal or final,” Aadyn added.

Regardless, both Aadyn and Berlin have progressed into the round of 16.

The Utah State Amateur Championship will take place on Thursday, August 4. The semifinals will occur on Wednesday, August 3. Live scoring can be found on the Utah Golf Association website.
