The Players Championship To Act As Tony Finau’s Next Stop

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s Tony Finau will again bypass this week’s PGA Tour event as his preparations for The Players Championship ramp up.

Finau has been incredibly selective in the tournaments that he participates in so far throughout the 2021/22 PGA Tour season. As it currently stands, Finau has participated in just eight events where he has managed to make the cut in five of them. Sadly, he only has 1 top 25 finish to his name, which came at the Tournament of Champions on the Kapalua Plantation Course when he finished the tournament in a tie for 19th.

Finau clearly hopes that the added practice time will pay off at TPC Sawgrass. A year ago, Finau failed to make the cut at The Players marking the third time in his career that he has failed to play weekend golf at TPC Sawgrass.

Statistically, Finau’s season to date has been rather inconsistent. He ranks 94th in driving distance and 189th in driving accuracy. Interestingly though, despite his struggle off the tee, Finau is hitting a whopping 71 percent of greens in regulation, good enough for 39th on Tour.

It has well been known that in order to find success at TPC Sawgrass, finding fairways and hitting greens must occur. Generally, the best ball strikers in the game are the ones who find the most success at The Players.

With a little bit of extra work done with the driver, Finau could well be in contention late on Sunday at this year’s Players Championship.

The Players Championship is scheduled to begin on March 10 and run through March 13.
