SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s Tony Finau has begun his Canadian Open campaign with an impressive four-under-round display and currently sits just three back of the leader Wyndham Clark in a tie for fourth place.

Finau’s round began on the par 5 9th hole where he found the fairway off the tee before piercing a long iron from 230 yards out to 15 feet. Finau’s eagle attempt on his opening hole ran past the hole but fortunately, he was able to bury his downhill four-foot birdie to get off to the perfect start.

Finau then put a stretch of five holes where he was able to save par before capitalizing again on a par 5 when he made another birdie on the 15th to make the turn at two-under-par.

Finau’s only bogey of the round came on the par 4 2nd hole but he was able to redeem his lost shot when he strung three consecutive holes in which he birdied between holes three to five.

The shot of the day for Finau came on the 5th hole when he spun his wedge shot to within two feet for an easy tap in birdie. Finau drove the ball wonderfully on Thursday and was able to drain a handful of birdie putts which helped him capitalize to climb up the leaderboard.

Friday Tee Time & Other Notable Players

On Friday, Finau will tee off alongside J.J. Spaun and Nick Taylor at 11:15 a.m. off the first tee.

The overnight leader Wyndham Clark shot a bogey-free seven-under-par round carding a 63 to open his Canadian Open endeavor.

Other notable players in the field include Rory McIlroy who tied Finau at four-under-par, Shane Lowry at three-under, Justin Thomas at one-under-par, Cameron Smith at one-over, and world number one Scottie Scheffler who concluded his opening round at two-over-par.

Former BYU alumni and Canadian local Mike Weir finished his opening round at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Ontario at two-over-par.
