SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau has put together a solid second round of three under par, 68, at the Mexico Open and will now wait to see if he makes the cut as the rest of the field concludes their second round.

Finau began the tournament shooting an even par, 71, on the opening day. A round that included three back nine bogeys and three back nine birdies. On Friday, however, Finau found his game and managed four birdies and just the lone bogey that came on the par 4 4th hole.

Finau was firing with his wedges on Friday as his first birdie of the day came following a tremendous approach shot that left him with a 3 foot look at birdie on the par 4 2nd hole. He then responded with a handful of monster putts on seven and eight that pushed him to one under par as he made the turn. The putt on eight was from 58 feet and was hit with perfect speed into the center of the cup.

Sadly, Finau still missed a number of very makeable putts throughout his second round. It was another display of inconsistent putting from Finau who has battled with the putting yips his entire career.

The back nine consisted of just the lone birdie on the par 3 17th after his tee shot landed pin high some 25-feet from the hole.

It was a promising display from Finau who was disappointed with his even par to begin the tournament.

Currently, he finds himself in a share of 50th position. But with the majority of the field still out on the golf course, Finau’s positioning could fall depending on the results of his competitors.

It will be a nervy wait for Finau this afternoon as he waits to see whether or not he qualifies to play on the weekend.

As it stands, Jon Rahm, who has only played six holes of his second round, is tied atop the leaderboard alongside Adam Long at nine under par. Other notable players include Aaron Wise (-6), Cameron Champ (-5), Charles Howell III (-5), and Patrick Reed (-5).
