Tony Finau Makes Cut At Wells Fargo Championship

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s Tony Finau will be playing on the weekend at the Wells Fargo Championship following an impressive second round in wet and rainy conditions.

The tournament is being played in Maryland at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm.

Finau, 32, posted a one-under-par round of 69 on Friday as he enters the weekend at a tournament total of two-under-par and eight shots back from the leader Jason Day.

Finau began his Friday round with an early birdie on the par 5 2nd hole but immediately followed his birdie with a bogey on the par 3 3rd. His only other birdie on the day came at the par 5 10th when he nearly chipped in from just off the green. Prior to his chip on the 10th, Finau stood away from his golf ball and asked for a rules official following movement of the ball as he placed his club behind it. However, it was ruled that Finau did not cause the ball to move and was therefore not deemed any penalty.

It was an incredibly consistent day for Finau who found success with hitting fairways and greens in regulation. His putting, which has historically let him down over the years, was promising as he was able to read the greens well and execute with well-waited putts on the water-filled track.

Finau finds himself in a share of 20th position entering the weekend and 8 shots back from lone leader Jason Day who entered the clubhouse through two rounds at 10-under-par.

Other notable names in the field include Max Homa who is in a tie for second at -7, Tyrrell Hatton is in a share of 9th and -4, Sergio Garcia joins Finau in a tie for 20th, Rory McIlroy is flirting with the cut line at even par. While Webb Simpson blew up throughout round two and currently finds himself on the outside looking in at +6 following a +5 second round.
