SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has missed out on another opportunity to play on the weekend after posting a two-over-par second round at the Valero Texas Open.

His two-over-par second round comes following a one-over-par opening round, ending his tournament with a combined two-round score of three-over-par.

Poor Accuracy Off The Tee

Through the opening two rounds, Finau only managed to hit 25 percent of fairways. However, despite his poor driving, he found 66 percent of the greens in regulation. His putting also let him down as he averaged two putts per hole. If he missed the green in regulation following a poor drive that often led him to hitting out of the rough, it was likely that he bogeyed the hole.

Much needs to change next week in Augusta.

Finau began on the 10th tee box to begin Friday’s proceedings and immediately found himself in the red after bogeys on 11, and 12. Fortunately, a birdie on 17 gave him life as he approached the turn.

But as has been the case for Finau over the past month, he was unable to find his sizzling form from earlier in the year and made par on every hole on the back nine.

Three weeks ago at The Players Championship, Finau missed the cut for the first time since August. Since then, he failed to qualify for the weekend at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and missed the cut again this week at the Valero Texas Open.

The Masters Looms

It is far from ideal considering The Masters is next week. His form has been poor and he is currently in the midst of a slump. This slump follows the best golf of Finau’s career to start the season.

Through January and February, Finau managed to secure the most Official World Golf Ranking points after countless top 5 finishes that included back-to-back second-place finishes at the Farmers Insurance Open and the Genesis Open.

Tee times and groupings will be announced for The Masters earlier next week.
