SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has concluded his first round at the Wells Fargo Championship at two-over-par and sits seven shots back as he prepares for his second round.

Front Nine Shenanigans, Steady Back Nine

His round began with a bogey on two and a double-bogey on three to immediately jump to three-over-par. Another bogey fell on five and Finau was four-over through five holes.

Fortunately, his first birdie came on seven, he drained another birdie on eight to make the turn at two-over-par.

The back nine was far less chaotic for Finau who mustered one bogey on 11 and a bounce-back birdie on 14 to conclude the back nine at even par.

However, unfortunately, the front nine shenanigans were too much for Finau to overcome as he concluded with a first-round total of 73.

A Look Ahead

Finau is playing alongside Finau will tee off on Michael Kim and Jimmy Walker and will tee off at 11:05 a.m. on Friday.

The Wells Fargo Championship is notorious as one of the most challenging courses on the Tour.

His best finish came on debut in 2015 when he finished in a tie for 16th. Fortunately, he has never missed the cut, his worst finish came a year ago when he ended in a tie for 60th.

Finau will likely need to make more birdies on Friday to make the cut, however, there are still many players who are yet to tee off on Thursday that will likely impact the cut tomorrow.

Kyoung-Hoon Lee leads the field at five-under-par, Peter Malnati is on his heels at four-under-par while a chasing pack is two back at three-under-par.
