Finau Shoots Par, Draws Attention With Crazy Outfit At PGA Championship

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Utah native Tony Finau scored an even-par 70 on the first day of the PGA Championship at the Black Course at Bethpage, but it was his wardrobe decision that drew more attention.

Finau’s day started with pars on the first three holes followed by an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole. He would boogie the fifth hole and the 17^th to finish at even par for the day, placing him in a tie for 19^th on the leaderboard.

While it was a reasonably strong day at one of the most difficult courses in the world for Finau, fans got more entertainment out of discussing his outfit.

For the opening round of the second major of the season, Finau wore a flat-brim Nike hat with split colors of black and red. His shirt was also a divided issue as half of the Nike-branded polo featured closely spaced black and white stripes with the other half’s stripes being much farther apart.

The PGA Championship will continue through Sunday. The 2018 champion, Brooks Koepka, sits at the top of the leaderboard with a 7-under score of 63. Tiger Woods, the 2019 Masters champion, is tied for 53^rd place with a score of 2-over.
