Eric Weddle Ends Season With Strong Performance

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah great Eric Weddle’s season is over but he had a great performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wildcard round.

Weddle was one of nine locals to see the field during the Wildcard round but only five players’ teams advanced to the Divisional round. Six players with local ties had last week off with a first round bye.

Here’s how the locals did in the first week of the NFL Playoffs:

Former Utes

Kylie Fitts – Chicago Bears (12-4)
Fitts played but did not record any stats in the Bears’ heartbreaking 16-15 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The former Ute will return next season with the Bears with three years left on his rookie contract.

Sam Tevi – Los Angeles Chargers (12-4)
Tevi started at right tackle while playing every offensive snap in the Chargers’ 23-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Eric Weddle – Baltimore Ravens (10-6)
Weddle had seven tackles, including one for a loss in the Ravens’ 23-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Ravens season is over but Weddle will return for his fourth season in Baltimore with one year left on his contract. He finished the season with 75 tackles, one sack and three pass deflections.


Marcus Williams – New Orleans Saints (13-3)
Williams is expected to start in the Saints divisional round game against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Former Aggies

Maurice Alexander – Seattle Seahawks (10-6)
The former Aggie did not play in the Seahawks’ 24-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Seattle’s season is over and Alexander will become a free agent during the off-season. He had 10 tackles in nine games played in Seattle.

JoJo Natson – Los Angeles Rams (13-3)
Natson and the Rams had the week off with the first round bye. They will host the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional round.

Patrick Scales – Chicago Bears (12-4)
Scales was the long snapper in the Bears’ heartbreaking 16-15 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The season is over for the Bears and Scales will become a free agent during the off-season.

Bobby Wagner – Seattle Seahawks (10-6)
Wagner racked up 5 tackles, including 3 solo take-downs in the Seahawks’ 24-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Seattle’s season is over and Wagner finished with 141 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception returned for a touchdown. He will be back for one more season in Seattle with one year remaining on his contract.


Former Cougars

Michael Davis – Los Angeles Chargers (12-4)
In the Chargers’ 23-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens, Davis had two tackles and two pass deflections.

Taysom Hill – New Orleans Saints (13-3)
Hill is expected to start in the Saints divisional round game against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Daniel Sorensen – Kansas City Chiefs (12-4)
Sorensen is expected to play in the Chiefs’ Divisional round matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
NEXT UP: AFC Divisional round vs. Indianapolis Colts (10-6), Saturday at 2:35 p.m. on KSL.

Kyle Van Noy – New England Patriots (11-5)
Van Noy and the Patriots had the week off and will face the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional round.

Former High School Standouts

Marcus Kemp – Kansas City Chiefs (12-4)
The former Layton High School star had the week off and will face the Colts in the Divisional round.
NEXT UP: AFC Divisional round vs. Indianapolis Colts (10-6), Saturday at 2:35 p.m. on KSL.

Haloti Ngata – Philadelphia Eagles (9-7)
The former Highland High School star did not record any stats in the Eagles’ thrilling 16-15 win over the Chicago Bears.
NEXT UP: NFC Divisional round at New Orleans Saints (13-3), Sunday at 2:40 p.m. on FOX.

Dalton Schultz – Dallas Cowboys (10-6)
The Bingham High School product started at tight end but did not record a catch in the Cowboys’ 24-22 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
NEXT UP: NFC Divisional round at Los Angeles Rams (13-3), Saturday at 6:15 p.m. on FOX.

Xavier Su’a-Filo – Dallas Cowboys (10-6)
The former Timpview product did not play in the Cowboys’ 24-22 win over the Seattle Seahawks due to an ankle injury. It is unknown if Su’a-Filo will play in the Divisonal round.
