Eric Weddle Helps Rams Win Super Bowl Despite Rupturing Pectoral

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah Utes and current Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle helped his team win Super Bowl LVI despite suffering a significant injury during the first half.

The Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, February 13.
Los Angeles defeated Cincinnati, 23-20.
After the game, Weddle’s agent, David Canter, said that the former Utah standout played the second half after rupturing his pectoral muscle before halftime.
“The machine. Played the entire game after rupturing his pec. Like he said before this. He’ll leave it all on the field and have a lifetime to heal after. Congratulations @weddlesbeard,” Canter tweeted.

Weddle suffered the injury during the first half and went to the sideline for medical attention. Rams personnel attended to Weddle’s injury to the point that he was able to return to the field.

The safety helped the Rams pull off a comeback in the fourth quarter and capture a Super Bowl title.
Weddle finished the game with five total tackles and four solo tackles.
Before the game, Weddle announced that he would retire from the NFL for the second time.

After playing 13 seasons in the league, the former Utah standout retired from the NFL in 2020.
Before Los Angeles began its postseason run, the Rams brought Weddle out of retirement and onto their roster in hopes the veteran player could help them play for a championship.

Before retiring two years ago, Weddle had posted career statistics of 1235 tackles, 30 interceptions, 11.5 sacks, 41 tackles for loss, 5 touchdowns, 8 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries.
In four games this postseason, Weddle recorded 18 total tackles and 10 solo tackles.
