SALT LAKE CITY – Eric Weddle’s agent David Canter gave insight into the process that landed the Utah legend back on the Los Angeles Rams roster heading into the playoffs.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Rams signed Eric Weddle on their roster for the playoffs due to an injury to Jordan Fuller.

David Canter joined the Hans and Scotty G. Show on The Zone Sports Network on Wednesday and gave some insight into how the deal happened. You can listen to the full interview, below.

How Eric Weddle Signed With The Rams

According to Canter, the talks between Weddle and the Rams didn’t start until Tuesday night. Canter was in the middle of a work dinner when Weddle called him.

“I got a phone call from Eric, I was having an early dinner meeting before my main dinner,” Canter told The Zone Sports Network. “I put him to voicemail, got another call from him. I sent him a text ‘hey, I’ll call you back.’ Got another call, like one minute later. I was like ‘something’s wrong.’ Like Eric never stalker calls me.”

What happened next was an interesting exchange between Weddle and Canter after the agent answered the phone.

Canter: Is everything okay?

Weddle: No, not really.

Canter: What’s going on?

Weddle: I have something I need to talk to my best friend about. So I just got off the phone with the coaches.

Canter: Coaches from where?

Weddle: The Rams.

Canter: Okay, what’s going on?

Weddle: They want to know if I’m interested in coming back and trying to play safety on Monday night.

Canter: Well, what kind of shape are you in?

Canter thought the Rams had a first round bye and that Weddle would have about 10 days to prepare and get into NFL shape.

Weddle: What are you talking about? The game is Monday.

Canter: What do you want to do?

Weddle: You know me, I’m in shape.

Canter: Well, I mean, I was just with you. I mean, you’re not in starting safety in the NFL against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals shape are you?

Weddle: I don’t know. Maybe we should go find out.

Eric Weddle’s NFL Career

Weddle retired from the NFL in 2020 after playing 13 years in the league. The six-time Pro Bowler spent time with the Chargers, Ravens and Rams during his decorated career after being selected in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Before retiring, Weddle posted 1235 tackles, 30 interceptions, 11.5 sacks, 41 tackles for loss, 5 touchdowns, 8 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries.

Weddle is beloved by NFL and Utah Football fans for a multitude of reasons, including his joyous personality and the way he celebrates wins with a massive bowl of ice cream.

The Rams are set to take on the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL Wild Card Round on January 17 at 6:15. You can watch the game on ABC.

Los Angeles posted a 12-5 record for the 2021-22 season.
