Former Utah Great Brian Johnson Hired As Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Coach

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former University of Utah quarterback and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson has been hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as their new quarterback’s coach.

Johnson, 33, played at the University of Utah from 2004-08 where he famously helped Utah beat Alabama in the 2008 Sugarbowl.

Immediately following his playing career, Johnson jumped into the coaching ranks and joined his alma mater as the quarterback’s coach. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to offensive coordinator.

In 2014, Johnson left Utah and joined former Utah assistant coach Dan Mullen at Mississippi State as the quarterback coach. During his time in Mississippi, Johnson helped develop current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

He spent a year at the University of Houston in 2017 before joining Mullen at the University of Florida. While at Florida, Johnson was the offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach.

Kyle Trask is expected to be a top NFL draft pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. He was also a Heisman finalist in 2020 under Johnson’s guidance.

Johnson has never coached in the NFL until now. He will be expected to help the Philadelphia Eagles solve the quarterback mystery as it relates to Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts.
