SALT LAKE CITY – Former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson can seemingly do no wrong in his second NFL training camp with the New York Jets.

A quarterback by trade, Wilson showed off his one-handed catch capabilities between sessions at Jets camp over the weekend.

Back-up quarterback Mike White lined up in front of the Jugs Machine, gesturing Happy Gilmore style, as though he wanted to take a ball off the chest. Instead, Wilson calmly stuck his right hand out and caught the ball without issue.

‘Cool as the other side of the pillow,’ as former SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott used to say.

Year Two

Jets General Manager Joe Douglas was effusive in his praise of Wilson as he heads into his second season.

“The thing you love about Zach is his confidence never sways. His work ethic never dips.  You talk about a guy that’s obsessed with football. He’s obsessed with getting better.”

That’s a great trait to have at quarterback for a team that is depending on the young QB to develop into a player that can lead New York to the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

With the Jets focusing their offseason on adding talent around Wilson, the time is now for the former Cougar to prove himself.

“It’s gonna be fun to see him go from rookie year, progress to OTA’s (organized team activities), and then see how his training camp develops,” Douglas said.

About Zach Wilson

Before his time in the NFL, the Corner Canyon High School product had a standout career at BYU. Wilson helped the Cougars to an 11-1 record during his final season in Provo.

Wilson recently completed his first season in the NFL.

The quarterback struggled to start the 2021 campaign and suffered a knee injury that caused him to miss a month midway through the season.

After bouncing back from the injury, Wilson saw his play improve down the final stretch of New York’s schedule.

Wilson finished the season passing for 2,334 yards, nine touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He added 185 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
