Kyle Van Noy Links Up With BYU Football Stars Following Pro Bowl Festivities

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy just wrapped up his first-ever Pro Bowl weekend and met up with two former Cougar stars at a Super Bowl event on Friday.

Van Noy met up with Tyler Allgeier and Puka Nacua at the Super Bowl Bowling Classic in Kenner, Louisiana.

Hosted by Pepsi, NFL, and Nacua, the event’s proceeds will go to the NFL Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of young players at all levels in communities across the country.

All three of the former BYU Football stars had their own team of fans and competed against each other.

Kyle Van Noy Reflects On Pro Bowl Experience

Earlier this week, the former BYU linebacker joined the KSL Sports Zone to talk about his time in Orlando amongst other topics.

The conversation started with Van Noy’s evolution as a player. Early in his career with New England and Detroit, he was mainly a coverage linebacker. Recently in Baltimore, he has transitioned to more of a pass rusher.

Van Noy spoke on what it took, both physically and mentally, to make this change.

“It starts with the mindset,” Van Noy said. “To not be satisfied where you’re at, not give in to people telling you what you are, and proving the people that are on your side right. I’ve always been a pass rusher. Changing positions at the highest level, I don’t like to toot my own horn, but that’s crazy. That transition wasn’t easy but it helped me learn football and continue my career.”

Prior to his time with the Ravens, Van Noy’s season-high mark in sacks was 6.5 which he set back in 2019 with the Patriots.

In 2024, he more than doubled that mark with 12.5, which was good for fourth in the NFL.

Van Noy also said that the playstyle change was a result of not just the team’s needs, but also his personal preference.

“I got tired of covering these running backs,” Van Noy said. “That’s why I didnt want to play in that flag football game on Sunday. I looked over and they got Bijan (Robinson) and (Jahmyr) Gibbs. No, I’m not covering them. I’m going to sit my butt on this bench.”

The change led to one of the most productive seasons of his career. And some recognition to go along with it.

In his 12th season, Van Noy was named a Pro Bowler for the first time. However, he feels like he has deserved the honor for a long time.

“I have been a Pro Bowl, All-Pro player for many years,” Van Noy said. “This year just happened to be the year. Timing is everything.”

Although he didn’t participate in the biggest event, that didn’t stop him and his family from enjoying Central Florida.

From amusement parks to games and hanging out with the NFL’s best, Van Noy made it clear that he will never forget his first Pro Bowl experience.

“Being the one percent of the one percent to be able to go to something like that,” Van Noy said. “It really hit me when I was there because I’m having conversations with Myles Garrett and Micah Parsons. You’re around the best players in the world. Taking pictures, talking trash, it was one of the coolest experiences.”

About Kyle Van Noy

After a standout career at BYU, Van Noy was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Following two and a half seasons with Detroit, the linebacker was traded to New England. Van Noy played the next three and a half seasons with the Patriots and helped New England win a pair of Super Bowls.

After the 2019 season, the linebacker signed with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins released Van Noy after one season in South Beach and he returned to New England on a two-year deal. The 2021 season was the lone year of Van Noy’s second stint with the Patriots.

Van Noy signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in May 2022.

The linebacker recorded 46 total tackles, 30 solo tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and three pass breakups during the regular season. In Los Angeles’ postseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Van Noy had three total tackles, two solo tackles, and a pass breakup.

After one year in Los Angeles, Van Noy joined the Ravens.

Following his first season in Baltimore, Van Noy built his career totals to 541 total tackles, 363 solo tackles, 55 sacks, 14 forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries, three interceptions, one touchdown, and 35 pass breakups. He’s played in 158 games in his career.
