Report: Jets Likely Won’t Budge On Talks With Zach Wilson

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – According to a report from Ralph Vacchiano of SNY sports, the New York Jets are “not likely to budge” as they are in standoff mode with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.
Asked when QB Zach Wilson absolutely needs to be in training camp, Robert Saleh said “Ask me again tomorrow.”

Vacchiano describes that the fight focuses on “offset language” but as ProFootballTalk earlier reported the signing bonus has also been an impediment. The Jets want to defer millions into 2022. League and team precedent point to all of the bonus being paid within 15-30 days.
Nothing has been reported on the likelihood of Wilson budging on the deal negotiations.
Jets training camp began yesterday without Wilson. Missing reps isn’t good for the rookie quarterback or his new team.
Wilson is one of three first-round draft picks from the 2021 class not yet to sign their rookie contract. He becomes the second consecutive New York Jets first-round QB pick not to have a signed rookie contract entering training camp. Sam Darnold didn’t sign his contract until a few days into training camp back in 2018.

His rookie salary is already set. He will receive a fully-guaranteed four-year $35.2 million contract.
