Report: Jets QB Zach Wilson Dealing With Injury Suffered During Week 1

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU Cougars and current New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson suffered a groin injury the opening week of the NFL season, according to The Athletic‘s Jeff Howe.

The former BYU star’s injury was reported by Howe on September 22.
New York opened its season against the Carolina Panthers on September 12.
“Wilson, the No. 2 pick in April, suffered a groin injury during the 19-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, according to a source.” Howe wrote.
The rookie quarterback reportedly received an MRI to determine the significance of the injury.

Howe reported the Wilson isn’t expected to miss any games due to the injury, but that the injury could require maintenance throughout the rest of the 17-game season.
Wilson has started both of the Jets’ first two contests.
During New York’s Week 1 loss to the Panthers, Wilson was 20/37 passing for 258 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He was repeatedly pressured, hit, and suffered the reported groin injury.

A week later, Wilson struggled and the Jets fell to the New England Patriots. Wilson was 19/33 passing for 210 yards and four interceptions. He also ran the ball three times for 19 yards. His four interceptions were more than the three picks he threw during the 2020 season at BYU.

Wilson and the Jets will look to win their first game of the season against the undefeated Denver Broncos during Week 3.

Denver is slated to hosted New York on Sunday, September 26 at 2:05 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on CBS.
