SEATTLE, Washington – During a post-practice interview on Wednesday, former BYU quarterback, Taysom Hill was asked about his thoughts on the prospect of starting at QB for the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Hill responded, “I’ll be ready.”

Franchise QB, Drew Brees suffered a thumb injury in the first quarter of the team’s game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, September 15. Brees’ injury required surgery and he’s projected to miss multiple games while recovering.

Hill along with fellow Saints QB, Teddy Bridgewater, are battling for the Saints’ starting QB spot for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

“Today (Wednesday) we had our first practice, first install of kinda what we’re gonna do, and we’ll kinda see how things develop as the week goes on,” said Hill.

“I’m gonna do what they ask me to do,” Hill continued, “my expectation is still to be very much involved from a special teams standpoint and offensively.”

The former Cougar QB is in his third year with the Saints but has primarily been used on special teams and other offensive positions like as tight end during his short NFL career.

MORE ON HILL:

Through two games this season, Hill has yet to play any snaps at quarterback. In the first two games of 2019 he has seen time at running back, wide receiver, and special teams.

Hill three receptions in the team’s first two games for a total of 25 yards and one touchdown.

“This is a new role for me. This is something that I’m not used to,” Hill continued, “my expectation was to get on the field and play ya know previously and I had to make sure that I was up to speed with all of that stuff.”

Hill isn’t unfamiliar playing QB for the Saints. During the preseason, he had 448 passing yards and 148 rushing yards and he completed 67-percent of his passes. He also helped lead a comeback victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Saints’ second preseason game.

“I have to be able to know the ins and outs of all the game plan and so that mindset is definitely different. I’ll be ready and I’ll prepare and ya know, go from there,” said Hill.

Bridgewater Talks Taysom

Teddy Bridgewater stepped in for Brees last week after the future hall of fame quarterback injured his thumb. Bridgewater has been believed to be the next starter in line because he’s the highest-paid backup quarterback in the NFL this year.

The former first-round draft pick is making $7.5 million this year with the Saints.

“It’s all about doing whatever we can to help this team win. So whether it’s Taysom out there making plays or it’s me out there making plays it’s all about the team,” said Bridgewater.

When he was asked if he expected to start Sunday, Bridgewater responded, “I mean, moving forward, I hope so.”

Bridgewater has previous experience as a starting quarterback in the NFL. He was a starting QB for the Minnesota Vikings before suffering an injury in 2016.

“Whether it’s generating plays to use Taysom or generating plays to use me. Ya know, we just want to do whatever we can to help this team win,” said Bridgewater.
