SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill is officially a member of the New Orleans Saints for the 2020 season. The deadline to sign a restricted free agency tender passed on Friday and no offers from other teams in the NFL had been offered to Hill.

With no other offers, the first-round tender the Saints gave to Hill at the beginning of free agency became official after the deadline passed on Friday.

The first-round tender offered by the Saints ensures that Hill is guaranteed to make $4.641 million during the 2020 season. Now the question, what will his role be this season now that future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees is back?

Expect more of what we’ve seen the past three years where Hill has thrived as a do-it-all Swiss Army Knife on both offense and defense. Saints coach Sean Payton said Hill will continue in the “F position” where he sees time at wide receiver and tight end, along with special teams which is something Hill has been proud to part of.

On the quarterback side, Hill is expected to be the number two guy behind Brees, but the Saints will be in the market for a third quarterback to allow for Hill to thrive in other spots while he is a backup QB.

Taysom Hill has expressed that he is a future starting quarterback in the NFL and that has been his goal from day one. Payton has echoed those sentiments saying they believe Hill can be a starting quarterback in the league.

A lot of Hill’s future as a starting quarterback with the Saints is predicated on when Brees ends up retiring. Brees signed a two-year contract, but he also has agreed to be the next color analyst for NBC’s NFL games with Al Michaels after his career is over. Will that be in 2021? If it happened next year, it would work perfectly for Hill to receive a big payday potentially from the Saints as Hill will be an unrestricted free agent in the 2021 season.
