Salt Lake Bees Daybreak Ballpark Has Long Way To Go

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah—The Salt Lake Bees’ April 8 home opener is fast approaching, and construction on the new ballpark begs the question: Will The Ballpark at America First Square be ready for action in 34 days?
After breaking ground on the new facilities in October 2023, the plan has always been for the Bees to open the 2025 season in a new ballpark on the Salt Lake Valley’s west side. A lot can happen in a month, but it will take a complete transformation for the area to sustain nearly 8,000 fans making the trek to Daybreak.
Nestled between the mines of Kennecott to the west and unforgettable views of the Wasatch Mountain Range to the east, cranes, construction crews, and concrete barriers overwhelm the skyline with unmistakable signs of growth. From the sheer amount of ongoing construction, one can’t help but wonder how the work will be completed in time.

Less than a month from the Minor League Baseball season opener, the franchise’s new digs appear far from ready for play. Southbound traffic in front of the park is blocked off as crews continue work on the Megaplex Theatre adjacent to the field.
Parking and access to the area are almost non-existent; surrounding fields that presumably will sprout future businesses are empty patches of dirt, not remotely ready for increased ballpark foot traffic.
Beyond the ballpark itself, the infrastructure of surrounding sidewalks, pathways, and baseball ambiance is non-existent. In their place stands thorny underbrush, loosely tamped walking routes that would surely turn to mud under the slightest rain, and the sounds of construction commanding the senses.
When asked for comment, Larry H. Miller Director of Communications Jenny Teemsma said, “The Salt Lake Bees will play their home opener at The Ballpark at America First Square on April 8, 2025. We are excited to welcome fans to our new hive and cheer on the Salt Lake Bees.”
Daybreak community welcomes Salt Lake Bees
The LHM Company announced in January 2023 plans to relocate the Bees from their current home at Smith’s Ballpark on 1300 South & West Temple in Salt Lake to a more rural location in Daybreak, Utah.
“We are a family-centered community, and we are excited to join friends and family from across the region as together we enjoy America’s favorite pastime right here in South Jordan,” said City of South Jordan Mayor Dawn Ramsey.

With a capacity of 7,500 fans, the new park will offer a range of tickets from open-lawn seating to expanded premium, club, and field-level seating where fans are closer to home plate than the pitcher; event spaces; family-friendly gathering areas and a new alcohol-free zone; an easily accessible team store; and picturesque views of the Wasatch Mountains.

We know that our fans will enjoy the family-friendly experience of Triple-A baseball in this state-of-the-art venue.”

Salt Lake opens the season with a nine-game road trip. The Bees take on the El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres) on Friday, March 28. Following a three-game series with the Chihuahuas, the Bees head to New Mexico for a six-game set with the Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies) from April 1-April 6.
