PROVO, Utah- The MLB is in the first week of the young season, and some local ballplayers from around the state are getting their campaigns underway, including former BYU Cougar Daniel Schneemann.

In Cleveland’s opening series against Kansas City, Schneemann had a great second game, walking three times and slapping his first hit and home run of the new season to aid the Guardians in their 6-2 win over the Royals.

It was the bottom of the 8th inning, the Cleveland Guardians had already built a sizable 5-0 lead over the Kansas City Royals. Even though Schneemann didn’t previously have a hit, he was a part of the scoring with three walks that helped move the order along and clog the bases. He even scored from third in the 6th inning on a fielder’s choice.

Daniel was rewarded for his patience at the plate with only six outs remaining for the Guardians. It was a 2-2 count and John Schreiber threw an 87 mph cutter on the inside corner, but Schneemann barreled it up and hit it 401 feet over the right field wall.

Last year was Daniel Schneemann’s first year in the majors. He appeared in 73 games, hit .218, and hit five home runs. This year, he will look to up that production in an increased role with the club.

About Daniel Schneemann

In his last year playing for the BYU Cougars, the shortstop posted a batting average of .238 with 28 RBIs.

In 2018, Schneemann was selected in the 33rd round of the MLB Draft, going 1,003rd overall to the Cleveland Guardians.

Between 2019 and 2024, Daniel slowly claimed his way up the ranks, first playing for the Arizona League Indians, then the Single-A Lake County Captains, and Double-A Akron RubberDucks, before finally making the opening day roster for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.

In 2024 with Columbus, Schneemann got a call-up to the 40-man roster, making his Major League debut on June 2, 2024.

Now, Daniel Schneemann starts his 2025 campaign in the MLB as a member of the Cleveland Guardians.
