Major League Baseball Delays Start Of Season For At Least Two Months

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Major League Baseball announced that the start of its 2020 season will be delayed at least two months in accordance with a Centers for Disease Control and Prevent recommendation “restricting events of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks.”
MLB announced the decision in a statement released on Monday, March 16.
The decision comes one day after the CDC recommended that public events restrict attendance to less than 50 people for the next eight weeks.
The restriction runs through at least May 10. MLB’s 2020 season was originally scheduled for March 26.

The MLB schedule was originally slated to take place from the end of March until October.
Major League Baseball postponed spring training as well.
The decision also comes a week after the NCAA canceled their men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and all spring sports. The NBA, NHL, and MLS decided to suspend their season until further notice.

How Do I Prevent It?
The CDC has some simple recommendations, most of which are the same for preventing other respiratory illnesses or the flu:
- Avoid close contact with people who may be sick
- Avoid touching your face
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
The CDC does not recommend wearing a facemask respirator to protect yourself from coronavirus unless a healthcare professional recommends it.
