Diogo Goncalves Gives Real Salt Lake Lead In Rocky Mountain Showdown

SALT LAKE CITY — Real Salt Lake midfielder Diogo Goncalves let loose from the top of the box to give RSL a 1-0 lead over the Colorado Rapids in the first half on Saturday.
The goal tied the season series 1-1 on aggregate, setting the table for a potential lead-taking score later in the match.

The play started with Alexandros Katranis. He lobbed a pass inside to Rwan Cruz, who sent the ball across the center of the pitch. Goncalves was there and sent a screamer toward the top shelf for his fourth goal of the season.
It also gave Cruz his second assist of the season.
After the final ive minutes of the half and an extra 60 seconds of stoppage time, Real Salt Lake took its 1-0 lead into the locker room.
RSL Looks To Get Rocky Mountain Cup Revenge
Last year, the Colorado Rapids lifted the Rocky Mountain Cup for the first time since 2020 and earned their first outright rivalry win since 2013.
With only two meetings this season, Real must win on goal difference to deny Colorado its first back-to-back titles in nearly 20 years
The Rapids defeated Real Salt Lake 1-0 at home back in May. If RSL loses or wins by just one goal, Colorado will retain Rocky Mountain bragging rights.
Currently, both clubs sit on the outside of the playoff picture, looking in. Colorado sits ninth in the Western Conference, and Real is two spots behind them at 11th.
