Rimando Wins MLS ‘Save Of The Year’ During Final Season

SANDY, Utah – Nick Rimando’s career may have ended against Seattle, but the awards have not. Rimando won the 2019 MLS Save of the Year for his double save effort against the Colorado Rapids on August 24.
Rimando also became the first player to earn three MLS Save of the Year honors. He won in 2012 and 2013.
As if there was any doubt.

There were 16 Save of the Year nominees. Rimando’s save(s) received the most fan votes.
Rimando’s Legacy
After 369 games for Real Salt Lake, Rimando’s legacy will forever live on.
He leaves the club having won multiple accolades including MLS Cup Most Valuable Player in 2009, a six-time MLS All-Star and now a three-time MLS Save of the Year winner.
Following his final game, Rimando said, “I gave so much to this sport. And to see it go…I’m just so grateful for everything it has given to me.”
Who will take over for Rimando between the sticks is one big burning question that will be answered over the offseason.
RSL currently has two very promising goalkeepers on its roster, Andrew Putna, and David Ochoa. Will the front office look elsewhere and bring another goalkeeper in during the offseason? Only time will tell.
