Real Monarchs Fernando Delgado Becomes Youngest Goalkeeper Worldwide To Debut In Professional Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – More history for the Real Monarchs as goalkeeper Fernando Delgado becomes the youngest goalkeeper in the world to debut for a professional team.
Delgado is 15 years, 2 months, and 22 days old and was recruited by Real Salt Lake from the Barcelona Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona.
A week ago the Monarchs made history when striker Axel Kei came off the bench for Bobby Wood, making him the youngest ever player to make a professional appearance in American team sports.
Delgado has been with the RSL Academy since June of 2020 after being born in Phoenix, Arizona. Both of his parents are from Mexico, Delgado is yet to decide which national team to play for.
Earlier this year, Delgado was invited to the Mexican U-17 national team and in a few weeks is expected to train and will likely be invited to future the United States youth national team camps.

The Real Monarchs have featured a number of young players this season with Delgado joining the likes of 17-year-old Jeff Dewsnup, 16-year-old Gavin Beavers, and 13-year-old Axel Kei.
Delgado becomes the third Monarch player to break the youngest goalkeeper ever to play in a United Soccer League.
The Real Monarchs are playing Austin Bold in Herriman, Utah at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 16.
