Real Salt Lake Reported To Be Interested In Manchester City Defender

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake has been reported to be interested in Manchester City defender Timi Sobowale, according to the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom.

Sobowale, 19, has reportedly held discussions with RSL regarding a potential move to the United States, according to the report. But the young centre-back has interest from other clubs including Premier League club Crystal Palace and Championship sides Millwall, Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers. In 2019, Sobowale spent a year on loan with Blackburn.

Manchester City prospect Timi Sobowale is wanted by MLS side Real Salt Lake City. Stoke and a handful of other championship clubs are also showing interest.

RSL has had a history with players with ties to Manchester City, Albert Rusnak was a member of the City Academy before making the move to Utah and recently retired center-back Nedum Onuoha played for the The Sky Blues for 8 years notching 95 appearances.

Sobowale has citizenship in both Nigeria and Ireland. He has competed for the U-19 Ireland National Team on four occasions, starting three of those games.

Unfortunately, Sobowale has found playing time hard to come by in Manchester. The young prospect has yet to appear in a game for the City U-23 team this season and one appearence since he joined City from Villa FC, an Ireland professional club that is based in Waterford.

KSL Sports has learned that if Sobowale were to join Real Salt Lake, it would likely result in Sobowale playing for the Monarchs before any time is spent with the first team.
