SAN JOSE, California—A Champions Cup draw gave Real Salt Lake fans a glimpse at several fresh faces before the team opens the MLS schedule against San Jose. There wasn’t much action when Claret & Cobalt took the pitch against C.S. Herediano in the Champions Cup, but the group proved they’re ready for 2025.
RSL opens the 2025 season on Saturday, February 22, against former striker Chicho Arango and the San Jose Earthquakes. First kick is at 8:30 p.m. MT.

As fans familiarize themselves with the many new players under Pablo Mastroeni’s tutelage, they’ll also have to cope with 2024 leading scorer Chicho Arango wearing an Earthquakes kit. RSL dealt the dangerous goal-scorer to their Western Conference opponent as part of a massive offseason makeover.
The Arango trade was just one in a host of moves that left fans wondering about the long-term plan after three consecutive first-round exits. Only time will tell if the new charges will push the Claret & Cobalt over the top.
Four new players made their RSL debuts against C.S. Herediano in the Champions League. Kobi Henry, Forster Ajago, and goalkeeper Rafael Cabral started. Samuel Junqua came on in the 20th minute after Alexandros Katranis left with an injury.
Massive personnel turnover may have limited RSL’s offense, but the defensive side of the ball looked promising in the scoreless draw.

RSL introduces 2025 kits
Real Salt Lake will have a new look for 2025, turning the page on last season and focusing on a new era of Claret & Cobalt.
“What we love about our city,” the video begins from the rooftop of a downtown SLC building. “The Grid!”
“It’s more than just street lights and concrete,” the nearly 90-second video continues. “It’s the backbone that shaped our city—the place where we dream. Every square represents the streets that connect us, the people that made us, and the place we proudly call home. It’s a design that reflects community, connection, and infinite possibilities. That’s the thing about our city. You never know where the grid will take you or who you’ll meet.”

Each square on the new kit represents the architecturally famous streets that shape Salt Lake, and a unique design in each square depicts the endless possibilities on each city block.
The new kits are available in the RSL team store.
