Former BYU guard shines in Las Vegas Summer League

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU guard Egor Dëmin is hoping to make a splash as he returns to the court for his second NBA season with the Brooklyn Nets.

The 2025 No. 8 overall pick set an NBA rookie record by connecting from 3-point range in 34 consecutive games before plantar fasciitis in his left foot shut him down in early March,

He was likely well on his way to earning a spot on the NBA All-Rookie teams before missing the final six weeks of the season.

Dëmin still finished the year shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc — a Nets rookie record — and earned a Rising Stars Game selection despite appearing in just 52 of 82 games.

The Russia-born guard averaged 10.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 25.2 minutes across 45 starts for the rebuilding Nets.

Dëmin’s long-range efficiency marked a dramatic leap from his lone season in Provo, where he shot just 27.3 percent from deep as a freshman.

He was far more than a shooter for the Cougars — Dëmin averaged 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals across 33 starts, earning Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors while helping BYU go 26-10 and finish No. 13 in the final AP poll.

The 6-foot-8 playmaker became the first one-and-done product of the NBA pipeline coach Kevin Young has vowed to build at BYU, going from an 18-point, 11-assist debut against Central Arkansas to a lottery pick in less than five months.

Dëmin, 20, appears to have put the foot injury in his rear-view mirror while spending plenty of time in the weight room developing his body.

He has looked sharp in summer league action, scoring 23 points against Golden State and 26 against Orlando in his two most recent outings.

Dëmin excels in 2026 Las Vegas Summer League debut

Dëmin’s length and creation were on full display in Brooklyn’s Las Vegas Summer League opener against New York.

The second-year guard scored 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting — including 3-of-9 from three — with three rebounds and two assists as the Brooklyn Nets routed the New York Knicks 91-65 in their Las Vegas Summer League opener at the Thomas & Mack Center

Dëmin was especially aggressive in the first half, pouring in 15 points and repeatedly attacking the rim before drilling back-to-back threes to spark a 16-2 Nets run that erased an eight-point Knicks lead.

Dëmin combined with rookie lottery pick Mikel Brown Jr., who also scored 20 on a more efficient 6-of-12 clip, to power a dominant second half in which Brooklyn outscored New York 30-9 in the third quarter and led by as many as 32.
