Utah Jazz Fall To Trail Blazers For First Home Loss

Oct 29, 2025, 10:04 PM | Updated: 10:05 pm

SALT LAKE CITY – A fourth-quarter comeback fell short for the Utah Jazz in a 136-134 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers for their first loss at home in 2025.

The Jazz (2-2) used defense to whittle a 22-point deficit to 1, but couldn’t finish the comeback in the final moments against Portland (3-2).

Lauri Markkanen finished the night with 32 points to lead all scorers. Keyonte George scored 29 points on 6-of-14 shooting, with eight assists, and was a perfect 15-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Walker Kessler ended the night with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists.

Niang, who previously spent four seasons in Utah, has missed all three regular-season games and all four preseason contests while rehabbing a foot injury.

Nurkic was initially listed as questionable due to a hip contusion in Tuesday’s injury report, but was upgraded to available on Wednesday.

• Oscar Tshiebwe – Out (G League; two-way contract)

First Quarter

Svi Mykhailiuk and Walker Kessler kick-started Utah’s offense with a pair of early threes, helping the Jazz to a nine-point advantage four minutes into the game.

No. 5 overall pick Ace Bailey showed off his mid-range game, knocking down a trio of short jumpers. Off the dribble or on a catch and shoot, Bailey is looking more comfortable on the offensive end.

The Jazz finished the period shooting 60 percent (15-of-25), while both teams hit better than 40 percent from beyond the arc in the opening 12 minutes. They combined to make 11 threes in the period.

Portland’s Jeremi Grant came off the bench to lead all scorers with 11 points. Lauri Markkanen led Utah with nine points.

Second Quarter

Markkanen got hot to start the period, scoring nine points in the first four minutes.

Third Quarter

Portland jumped out to an 86-76 lead to start the second half.

The Blazers continued pulling away courtesy of a porous Jazz defense.

Live-ball turnovers from the Jazz helped Portland extend the advantage during the quarter. The Trail Blazers scored 23 points off of 17 Utah turnovers through three quarters.

After shooting 60 percent from the floor in the first 12 minutes, Utah’s shooting percentage fell to 45.6 percent heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The defensive intensity brought by Elijah Harkless off the bench helped Utah go on a 13-0 run, cutting a 25-point deficit to 12 with more than five minutes to play.

For the second time in his career and first with the Jazz, Markkanen surpassed the 30-point plateau for the third consecutive game.
