SALT LAKE CITY — Even after an electric 28-point debut in the first game of the Salt Lake City Summer League on Saturday, some people didn’t let off on their critiques of Darryn Peterson.
On top of the discourse, comparisons between him and Grizzlies forward Cam Boozer go months, and even years, back.
All of it was used as motivation as the Utah Jazz took on Memphis in game two.
how does Darryn top dropping 28 in his summer debut? 🤔

Darryn Peterson Scores, Assists With Ease In Jazz Win Over Grizzlies
The main counterpoints to Peterson’s first game with the Utah Jazz were just two stats: two assists and eight turnovers. Pre-draft talking points saying that Peterson was not a point guard and struggled to incorporate his teammates in the offense were reignited.
Peterson’s response? 12 assists and two turnovers against Memphis.
According to RealGM’s database, only six players have ever posted 12+ assists with two or fewer turnovers in the last 22 years of Summer League hoops.
Eight (turnovers) is insane. That’s way too many. I definitely told myself that I had to cut those down and I have to make plays for my teammates so I tried to do that.

Peterson’s season-high for assists in his lone year at Kansas was four. The playmaking he showcased against Memphis was unlike anything he showed with the Jayhawks, and likely even surpassed his best performances in that regard as a prep player.
Even with the extra attention on getting others involved, Peterson still got his, finishing with 25 points on 53 percent shooting.
Similar to his debut two days ago, his scoring started on the interior and moved out. He shot 5/6 on twos and 3/9 on threes.

But if you asked the man himself, he would tell you that neither the points nor assists matter, and all he cares about is a win.
The final 109-100 score made it a good night in the eyes of the rookie.
Now, with plans to rest for the final game at the Huntsman Center tomorrow, sights are set on AJ Dybantsa and the Washington Wizards in Vegas on Thursday.
