Donovan Mitchell Will Miss At Least Another Week With Ankle Injury

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell will miss at least another week with his sprained right ankle. According to the Utah Jazz, Mitchell was re-evaluated on Friday, one week after the initial injury against the Indiana Pacers, and will have to be re-evaluated again next week.
Mitchell hurt the ankle in the third quarter of a Jazz home victory on April 16 against Indiana after coming down awkwardly on his right leg. The All-Star guard was diagnosed with a severe lower right ankle sprain.
“Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell was re-evaluated by the team’s medical staff on Friday for a sprained ankle he sustained vs Indiana on April 16,” the team announced. “He is making progress towards a return and will be re-evaluated in one week.”

Mitchell missed three games last week for the Jazz and will miss at least three more as the team begins a two-game series on Saturday against the Minnesota Timberwolves before heading to Sacramento to face the Kings on Wednesday.
The Jazz then travel to Phoenix to conclude a three-game road trip on Friday around the time Mitchell is set to be re-evaluated.
The guard was in the midst of a career year for the Jazz before the injury. Mitchell was averaging a personal best 26.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds for the Jazz while shooting 43 percent from the floor and 38 percent from the three-point line.

The fourth-year guard has already missed more games for the Jazz this season than he had in any of his previous years with the team. Mitchell missed two games as a rookie due to injury, five games as a sophomore, and three games in his second season before missing six already this season.
The Jazz have 13 games left on their schedule and currently own a two-game lead over the Suns for the best record in the NBA.
