Utah vs. New Orleans Storylines
- The home opener
- The new era of Jazz basketball will debut in front of the Delta Center crowd for the first time. With the fans behind them, let’s see if the team can feed off that and pick up their first win of the season.
- Defensive answers
- On Wednesday, Ty Jerome hung 45 points on Utah at FedEx Forum. Defense, especially at the point of attack, is a concern for this young Jazz team. They can’t allow dynamic players on opposing teams to get going. And New Orleans has players capable of getting hot. Dejounte Murray and Zion Williamson just to name a couple.
- Homecoming for a few Jazzmen
- In the same line as the first point, but still worth a mention. Darryn Peterson, Jaxson Hayes, Josh Okogie, and Josh Green will suit up in front of Utah Jazz fans for the first time in the regular season.
What I’m Looking For
- Rotation adjustments
- The Jazz played 11 players in the season opener, and only seven of them played 15 or more minutes. Despite the defensive woes, Okogie didn’t hit the floor until the fourth quarter. I will be looking to see if Will Hardy already shakes things up or if he runs things similarly.
- Best players bounce back
- It’s no secret that game one wasn’t pretty for Lauri Markkanen or Jaren Jackson Jr. For Lauri, it might be as simple as hitting his open shots, but JJJ needs to be more calculated with the ball in his hands. Carelessness led to some unnecessary turnovers and fouls in Memphis.
- More Darryn Peterson shot attempts
- Utah’s rookie guard shot just one shot in the second half on Wednesday despite having a plethora of opportunities. He has shown the ability to score from all three levels and needs to be willing to let it fly, at least more often than what we saw in game one.
