SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz fought off the Sacramento Kings for their first road win of the 2021-22 NBA season.

The Kings hosted the Jazz at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California on Friday, October 22.

Utah defeated Sacramento, 110-101.

Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz with a game-high 27 points.

Rudy Gobert recorded the 300th double-double of his NBA career with 17 points and 20 rebounds.

Battle in Sactown

The Jazz got off to a solid start in the River City and were going back-and-forth with the Kings throughout the opening quarter. Near the end of the first quarter, things flipped in favor of Sacramento on a foul review that resulted in the Jazz forward Joe Ingles being ejected from the contest. With 1:36 to go until the second quarter, Ingles slightly undercut Kings guard Davion Mitchell on a dunk attempt by the rookie near the end of the quarter. Officials reviewed the play and assessed a flagrant two penalty on Ingles and sent him to the locker room for the rest of the game.

Momentum shifted in favor of the Kings after Ingles’ ejection.

A 24-18 Jazz lead quickly turned into a 26-24 Kings advantage at the end of the opening quarter.

Over the next 12 minutes of game time, Sacramento outscored Utah by four points and took a 52-46 lead into the halftime break.

The Jazz battled back during the opening quarter of the second half thanks to Donovan Mitchell.

The fifth-year Jazzman scored 10 points during the third quarter and stayed hot from beyond the arc with six made three-pointers up to that point of the game.

Sacramento battled Utah into the final quarter of action before the Jazz were able to pull away.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Utah head coach Quin Snyder had his starters on the floor and the five players helped put the clamps down a Jazz victory.

With 3:33 left to play, Gobert deflected a ball on defense, ran the length of the floor, and slammed the ball on an alley-oop from Royce O’Neale to give the Jazz a four-point lead to separate the teams on the scoreboard for good.

With 40.7 seconds remaining until the final buzzer, Bojan Bogdanovic buried a three-pointer to extend Utah’s lead to 107-97. After hitting the triple, Bogdanovic waved goodbye to signify the Jazz victory. He finished with 13 points.

Utah Jazz

Overall, the Jazz shot 41.1 percent for the game and went 16-42 for 38.1 percent on attempts from beyond the arc.

Five Jazz players reached double figures in scoring.

Mitchell scored his 27 points on 9-25 shooting, including 6-14 on three-pointers.

Gobert’s 17 points were helped by 9-10 on free throws. He had 20 boards for the second game in a row.

Mike Conley rounded out Utah’s starting lineup with 17 points.

Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz bench unit with 15 points.

Sacramento Kings

The Jazz limited the Kings to 39.4 percent shooting, including 22.2 percent from downtown.

Harrison Barnes led Sacramento with 25 points.

Buddy Hield poured in 24 points off the bench.

Utah’s next game is against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, October 26 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on TNT and The Zone Sports Network 97.5 FM.
