Jazz’s Nurkic, Procida Eliminated At EuroBasket

SALT LAKE CITY – Both Jusuf Nurkic and Gabriele Procida saw their EuroBasket dreams dashed in the opening round of tournament play over the weekend.
The losses for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy leave Lauri Markkanen as the only Utah Jazz representative left in the tournament.

Nurkic, Procida Eliminated At EuroBasket
Nurkic and Bosnia and Herzegovina were eliminated on Sunday after falling to Poland 80-72.
Despite the loss, Nurkic played well to conclude EuroBasket play, recording 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals.

Bosnia and Herzegovina advanced out of Group Play for the first time since 1993.
For the tournament, Nurkic averaged 17.0 points and 8.7 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the floor and 31 percent from the three-point line.
Procida Sits As Italy Falls
Procida’s short time at EuroBasket came to an end on Sunday with Italy’s loss to Slovenia.
The 23-year-old whose draft rights belong to the Jazz was a healthy scratch in the 84-77 loss.

Procida made just two appearances in six total games for Italy, averaging 5.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists.
Although it was a small sample size, Procida knocked down 3-7 three-point attempts in his two outings, an area of importance for his NBA future.
Luka Doncic scored 42 points to lead Slovenia in the win.
Finland To Face Georgia In Round Of Eight
After stunning Serbia on Saturday, Markkanen and Team Finland will now turn their attention to Georgia.
Georgia shocked France with an 80-70 win to advance to the round of eight, where they will look to extend their own Cinderella run.

The Georgians earned the final spot in the knockout round out of Group C, despite finishing with a 2-3 record, before knocking out the heavily favored France, which entered the tournament stage with a 4-1 record.
The two teams will play on Wednesday, with the winner advancing to face either Germany or Slovenia.
