LAS VEGAS — The Thomas & Mack Center was packed to the brim on Thursday evening as the top two picks in the 2026 NBA draft prepared to face off to open the Vegas Summer League.

Darryn Peterson and AJ Dybantsa each had their moments, but the Washington Wizards came out on top, 92-88.

Wizards Vs. Jazz Vegas Summer League Recap

Early Struggles

Both Peterson and the Jazz as a whole struggled early. Peterson opened the game shooting 1/5, and Utah went down 27-18 after one.

Dybantsa started a bit better, pouring in 11 points and throwing down a highlight two-hand dunk.

Without Ace Bailey, who remained sidelined with back spasms, the Jazz faced an uphill battle that was not aided by the first-half shooting struggles.

At halftime, the Jazz trailed by 17, and Peterson had 11 points and two assists.

Comeback After The Break

The third quarter brought energy and effort that was missing for the Jazz in the first half.

Peterson and Cody Williams combined for 13 of the team’s 25 points in the quarter. More importantly, Utah held Washington to 43 percent from the floor, zero percent from three, and five turnovers in the third.

As a result, the Washington lead was cut down to eight points heading into the fourth.

Chippy Fourth Quarter

As the Jazz continued to slowly claw away at the Washington lead, tensions rose late.

Dybantsa and Peterson got tied up late, and less than a minute later, Peterson was called for an offensive foul that (unsuccessfully) was reviewed for elevation to a flagrant.

The fourth quarter, even most of the game, was never able to get into a flow as an eye-popping 60 fouls constantly paused the action.
