Stockton, Malone, Maravich, Wade Recognized During All-Star Game

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz greats John Stockton, Karl Malone, and “Pistol” Pete Maravich, as well as team part-owner Dwyane Wade were recognized as four of the NBA’s 75 greatest players during the NBA All-Star halftime show.

The NBA recognized the 75 best players in league history during the halftime show of the 2022 All-Star Game on Sunday, February 20.

Karl Malone

Malone was the first Jazz player to be honored during the ceremony. The Jazz legend was not in attendance but was shown on video.

Malone spent 18 of his 19 NBA seasons with the Jazz. The power forward nicknamed “The Mailman” retired as the league’s second all-time leading scorer with 36,928 points, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

During his illustrious career, Malone was named to 14 All-Star teams, 14 All-NBA teams, four All-Defensive Teams, was a two-time league MVP, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

The forward retired with career averages of 25.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.

Stockton, Maravich, and Wade were recognized during the NBA segment honoring its all-time best guards.

John Stockton

Stockton was in Cleveland for the ceremony.

Though he never won a championship, Stockton is one of the most decorated players in NBA history.

The guard is the league’s all-time leader in assists with 15,806 and steals with 3,265. Stockton is the only player to hold the lead in two of the NBA’s five major categories, both records that are unlikely to be broken due to the guard’s remarkable longevity.

Stockton played for the Jazz between 1984-2003 where he averaged 13.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the floor and 38 percent from the three-point line.

The guard was selected to 10 All-Star games, 11 All-NBA teams, five All-Defensive teams, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.

“Pistol” Pete Maravich

In order to draw an audience to New Orleans Jazz games, the team traded two players and five future draft picks to Atlanta for Maravich just four seasons into his career.

Maravich played five and a half seasons with the Jazz, including 17 games in Utah after the team changed ownership in 1979. “The Pistol” retired with averages of 24.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 rebounds in 658 career games.

Maravich passed away in 1988.

Dwyane Wade

Wade, a part-owner of the Jazz, was in attendance and served as an analyst on TNT’s broadcast of the All-Star Game.

During his 16 year NBA career, Wade was named to 13 All-Star teams, eight All-NBA teams, three All-Defensive teams, won three NBA titles, and was a Finals MVP.

Wade retired with career averages of 22 points, 5.4 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 1,047 games.

Damian Lillard

Former Weber State Wildcats and current Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard was also recognized as one of the NBA’s 75 greatest players of all-time.
