SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz dropped their sixth straight game, falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers 122-113.

Cody Williams led the Jazz with 26 points, while all five starters scored in double-digits.

Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley each had 34 points to lead the Cavaliers.

The Jazz led 105-103 with just under six minutes left in the fourth quarter before Cleveland closed the game on a 19-8 run.

What does Kyle Filipowski’s future look like?

With a severely limited roster surrounding him, Kyle Filipowski has shouldered a heavy offensive load in recent weeks.

The former second-round pick entered Monday’s game coming off impressive 25 and 26-point performances, while adding his customary collection of rebounds and assists, albeit in Jazz losses.

But unlike last season, when his highest scoring outings coincided with his best three-point shooting performances, Filipowski is beginning to find success scoring at the rim.

Over his two previous outings, the Duke product was 18-31 on two-point field goals and just 3-9 from downtown, exploiting the defensive weaknesses of Denver and Phoenix, without depending solely on three-point shooting.

“He does not need to be a three-point bomber to be impactful,” Jazz coach Will Hardy said. “I think that would be taking away from all the nuance of Kyle’s game.”

Filipowksi has seen his three-point attempts dip this season from 5.2 attempts per game to 4.3, while upping his two-point attempts from 7.0 to 8.2.

The 22-year-old is shooting 33 percent from three in his second NBA season, two percentage points down from his rookie campaign.

Despite the shift in his shot diet, Hardy isn’t ready to abandon Filipowski’s three-point shooting altogether.

“Unless you are physically dominant, and that could be height, or athleticism, not shooting threes, can be limiting,” the Jazz coach cautioned. “With Kyle, it’s always going to be about the mixture. We can overcorrect and go too far, and if he starts shooting too many of them, then we’re taking away those other things. But the threat of his three-point shooting will open up a lot of his other assets.”

Filipowksi showed the value of his three-point shot against the Cavaliers, matching a career-high with four makes on seven attempts, helping drag reigning Defensive Player of the Year Evan Mobley out of the paint.

“It’s not live or die by the three for me,” Filipowski admitted. “I think it just adds to the versatile game that I have, where it can benefit me in different ways, and I can just use it as a tool, as a threat to other teams.”

While the offensive side of the floor may be where Filipowski has shone most brightly during his first two seasons, he’s also begun to earn praise for his defense.

“[He] has a much better understanding of personnel and tendencies now, but I think that area has probably stood out the most,” Hardy said.

Filipowski shot 7-12 overall against the Cavaliers, while adding 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks in 24 minutes.

The Jazz have a $3 million team option on Filipowski’s contract this summer.
