Former Cougar Amari Whiting Saddles Up With Big 12 Rival

PROVO, Utah—After entering the NCAA transfer portal, former BYU Cougar Amari Whiting needed less than two weeks to join Big 12 rival Oklahoma State.
Whiting announced her commitment to the Cowgirls on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

She was one of three Cougars in double-figure scoring, averaging 10.3 points a night. Whiting added a second-best 5.5 boards and 3.8 assists. She is one of five players that were active in all 30 games.
About Amari Whiting
A native of Burley, Idaho, the 5’10 guard spent two seasons in Provo after a star-studded prep career at Burley High School.
Whiting was a two-time 4A All-Idaho Player of the Year (2021 & 2022) and earned 2022 Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year honors after averaging 26.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.7 steals, and 3.6 assists per game as a junior. She led Burley to the 4A Idaho State Championship in 2022.
After initially committing to Oregon, Whiting flipped her commitment to BYU when the Cougars hired her mother, Amber Whiting, as the women’s basketball head coach in 2022. Amber was dismissed as the Cougars’ head coach following the season.

An injury kept Whiting off the court during her senior season at Timpview High School.
Whiting returned to the floor as a freshman at BYU, earning Big 12 Freshman of the Week in February 2024. She started 63 games in two seasons, averaging 10.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.

BYU ended a disappointing 2024-25 season with a 13-17 record, including 4-14 in Big 12 play.
The Cougars men’s team received a No. 6 seed in the East Region and will open the “Big Dance” in Denver on Thursday against No. 11 seed VCU.
