Along with Dybantsa, Arizona’s Jaden Bradley and Brayden Burries, Houston’s Joseph “Jojo” Tugler, and Iowa State’s Milan Momcilovic were named to the tournament team.
Bradley, who hit a game-winning shot in the Semifinal win over Iowa State, earned “Most Outstanding Player.” The All-Tournament team was voted on by credentialed media who were in attendance at the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.
Dybantsa and Burries are the first freshmen named to the All-Big 12 Tournament team since Iowa State’s Milan Momcilovic received that recognition in 2024.
Since 2020, Dybantsa and Burries are only the third and fourth freshmen to earn All-Tournament Team honors. They also join former Oklahoma State star Cade Cunningham.
Dybantsa set the Big 12 Tournament record for most points scored by one player. After three games, Dybantsa scored 93 points, passing former Texas Longhorn Kevin Durant, who scored 92 points in 2007.
Dybantsa also set the Big 12 Tournament single-game record for most points scored by a freshman with 40 in the win over Kansas State.
It’s the first time since BYU joined the Big 12 that the Cougars have produced a player to the All-Tournament team.
Memorable freshman season
BYU finished 2-1 in the Big 12 Tournament this season, notching wins over Kansas State and West Virginia, before falling to Houston in the Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinals.
BYU and AJ Dybantsa now turn to the NCAA Tournament, where Dybantsa enters March Madness as the nation’s leading scorer at 25.3 points per game.
