SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The NCAA Division I Council decided to grant a blanket waiver to allow transfer student-athletes in all sports immediate eligibility for the 2020-21 season.

The NCAA announced the decision on Wednesday, December 16.

“We are thrilled at the passing of the blanket waiver as we believe it is in line with DI SAAC, ensuring that all of our student-athletes have the best opportunity to thrive both academically and athletically,” NCAA DI SAAC vice chair Caroline Lee said in response to the decision. “In a time of great uncertainty amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we feel it is in our best interest to grant immediate eligibility for those who have transferred in order to best support their mental health and well-being.”

The ruling will reportedly not impact a transfer like BYU men’s basketball guard Brandon Warr, who transferred to the Cougars from a non-Divison I school in Westminster College.

Warr is currently redshirting this season.

Prior to transferring, Warr played three seasons with the Griffins.
