BYU guard Rob Wright III reportedly plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

PROVO, Utah – BYU starting point guard Rob Wright III is reportedly on the move.
The Field of 68, 247Sports, and ESPN all report that Wright, who was with the BYU program this past season, is planning to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
The Transfer Portal window runs from April 7 to April 21 for the 2026 cycle.

Wright III was a Third Team All-Big 12 selection this past season for BYU.
The Wilmington, Delaware native averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds. He was part of BYU’s “Big 3” that included stars AJ Dybantsa and Richie Saunders.
Wright III improved his three-point percentage this season with BYU, knocking down 41% of his 3-point attempts.
Wright was a Third Team All-Big 12 performer this past season
Wright’s arrival at BYU via the transfer portal last spring was widely discussed, as he left the Baylor Bears program after his freshman season, when the fellow Big 12 program was set to build around him.
Even Baylor head coach Scott Drew referenced Wright’s departure and “signing a contract” when previewing a Big 12 Conference home game against BYU last February.
Wright III leaves a big hole for the BYU basketball program at the point guard position, as he will emerge as one of the top players in the transfer portal for the 2026 cycle.
Following BYU’s loss to Texas in the NCAA Tournament in the Round of 64, Wright told BYUtv, “If I’m in a college jersey, I’ll be attending BYU, for sure.”
Wright III would be the second player to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal from BYU in this 2026 cycle, joining center Xavion Staton.
