Rob Wright III is returning to BYU
Wright returns as a player who will anchor the point guard spot again for BYU.
When BYU’s season concluded last month after a first-round loss to the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA Tournament, Wright told BYUtv, “If I’m in a college jersey, I’ll be attending BYU, for sure.”
That played out, after all.
After entering the transfer portal last week, Wright had a visit with the Kentucky Wildcats on Monday night into Tuesday. Instead of continuing his career at Big Blue Nation, Wright III will now team up with Kentucky transfer Collin Chandler at BYU.
When Wright entered the portal, he instantly became one of the top players in the portal. He climbed to No. 6 in 247Sports’ portal prospect rankings for the 2026 cycle.
Wright finished last year at BYU with averages of 18.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. He was a player BYU leaned on as part of its “Big 3,” which included AJ Dybantsa and Richie Saunders.
Wright averaged 34.8 minutes per game last season.
