PROVO – While the start of the 2026 season is just around the corner, BYU football is making changes to the 2027 schedule.
The Cougars’ home game against Pac-12 Conference member Oregon State has moved up from September 25, 2027, to August 28, 2027.

Starting in the 2027 season, the NCAA Football Oversight Committee approved a 12-game regular-season schedule over 14 weeks. That means the regular season will begin, in what has previously been called “Week Zero,” each season before Labor Day weekend.
With that schedule change, BYU Athletic Director Brian Santiago told KSL Sports in May that there would be some “shifting” to the 2027 football slate. So the Oregon State game change doesn’t come as a surprise.
BYU moving Oregon State up to the season opener will give the Cougars a season-opening FBS opponent for the first time since 2022.
Looking ahead at the 2027 schedule
The Cougars currently have two of their three nonconference opponents set for 2027. Oregon State on August 28, and FCS Weber State the following week in Provo on Saturday, September 4.
The one nonconference matchup without a date is BYU’s trip to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame currently has openings on its 2027 schedule on September 11, October 16, and October 23.
BYU also has nine games against Big 12 Conference opponents. Those matchups will receive dates when the schedule drops next winter.
BYU has faced Oregon State 11 times, with the Beavers holding a 6-5 lead in the series. The last meeting between the two programs was in 2012, BYU’s first-ever blackout game, and they lost to a No. 10-ranked Oregon State squad, 42-24.
BYU also has a matchup scheduled with Oregon State in 2028, to be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
