Report: NCAA Issued Blanket Waiver Allowing FBS Schools To Begin Season On Time

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – According to reports, the NCAA issued a blanket waiver allowing all FBS schools to begin the college football season as early as August 29.

Brandon Marcello of 247Sports is reporting that the NCAA’s Football Oversight Committee requested a blanket waiver for all FBS schools willing to move games on their schedule to August 29 in order to play as many games as possible while providing schools more flexibility in scheduling in case issues arise with the coronavirus pandemic.
Teams that have games scheduled on August 29 are allowed to begin training camp as early as August 1.

The Pac-12 and Big Ten both announced that they will be playing a conference-only schedule for fall sports including football. The ACC is expected to make a decision on whether or not to play non-conference games or move to a conference-only model. The SEC is meeting on Thursday with presidents and chancellors according to Marcello.
According to Jon Wilner of the Bay Area News Group, the Pac-12’s 10-game schedule needs to be approved by the presidents. They are meeting on Friday.
