Five-Star QB Ryder Lyons Sets Commitment Date

PROVO, Utah – Will BYU football land five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons? We’re going to find out soon.
Lyons will make his decision on June 24.
The blue-chip prospect posted a teaser of his commitment date on his Instagram at the end of a reel that featured clips of visits he’s made to BYU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, and USC.

He confirmed the commitment date to Hayes Fawcett of On3 and wrote, “Grateful.”

Lyons hasn’t announced the finalists for his decision or how he plans to reveal his decision.
Some national recruiting pundits have pointed to BYU and Oregon among the top candidates for the Folsom, California native.
However, USC, where his older brother Walker Lyons is currently, could also be a threat. The same goes for Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Michigan, who have been in pursuit.
BYU was the first school to offer Lyons in 2021. Ever since, they have made him a top priority for the 2026 cycle.
Lyons is gearing up to take an official visit to Provo this weekend before making his decision on June 24.
Last week, the 6-foot-2.5, 220-pound quarterback took an official visit to the Oregon Ducks.
Lyons ranks in the 247Sports Composite as the 19th overall prospect in the country and the fifth quarterback in the 2026 cycle.
Five-star prospect in the 2026 class
247Sports National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman told the KSL Sports Zone’s “DJ & PK” earlier this week that he sees Lyons as the best quarterback in the country.
“I’ve said for two years that I think he’s the best quarterback in the country. I know he’s a top-five quarterback nationally. He’s the number one player in California. For my money, I will take him as the best quarterback in the country,” Huffman said to the KSL Sports Zone.
Lyons won the Gatorade Player of the Year in California as a junior last season. He accounted for 60 touchdowns, with 46 coming through the air and another 14 on the ground from the dual-threat standout.
BYU football could make a splash if it lands Ryder Lyons
If BYU were to land a commitment from Lyons, he would be the third-highest prospect the Cougars have landed since 2000. Lyons has a 247Sports Composite score of 0.9901 out of 1.000.
Only former Thousand Oaks, California, quarterback Ben Olson from the 2002 recruiting class and offensive lineman Ofa Mohetau out of Euless, Texas, in the 2003 cycle would have higher composite scores than Lyons.
The stakes got even higher for BYU football to leave a positive impression on Lyons this weekend before the final decision on June 24.
