BYU Football Reaches Special Milestone At LaVell Edwards Stadium

PROVO, Utah – The BYU Cougars reached a significant milestone in their season-opener, playing the 500th game in LaVell Edwards Stadium history.
The BYU Cougars began the 2025 season by hosting Portland State at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday, August 30.

The Cougars dominated Portland State 69-0 on Saturday night, improving to 20-0 all-time against FCS teams and 11-0 under Kalani Sitake.
About LaVell Edwards Stadium
Originally known as Cougar Stadium, BYU’s home stadium was renamed in 2000 after the retirement of legendary head coach LaVell Edwards.

LaVell Edwards Stadium opened in 1964 as a 45,000-seat stadium. Renovations have increased seating capacity to 62,073.
Perhaps BYU’s most memorable win at LaVell Edwards Stadium came in 1990 when the Cougars upset the No. 1 Miami Hurricanes.
BYU is 266-86 all-time at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
