ST. GEORGE, Utah – Former BYU football wide receiver Parker Kingston made his first in-person court appearance on Monday morning.

Kingston appeared in court on Monday at Utah’s Fifth District Court in St. George.

It was Kingston’s first in-person appearance in court since being arrested and charged with first-degree felony rape in February for alleged conduct against an alleged victim on February 23, 2025, in Washington County.

Coming out of the court appearance, Kingston will no longer be required to wear a GPS ankle monitor.

While Kingston’s GPS ankle monitor has now been removed, the other conditions of Kingston’s bail remain in effect.

That includes no contact with the alleged victim, no third-party contact with the alleged victim, and no social media apps on his phone.

The court appearance was initially scheduled as a preliminary hearing, but it was rescheduled to Thursday, April 2. It was a brief court appearance.

Attorneys asked for more time before the preliminary hearing occurs.

The Deseret News reported last week that Kingston’s lawyer, Cara Tangaro, stated in a court filing that the ankle monitor and prosecutors’ viewing Kingston as a flight risk were “simply absurd.”

Deputy County Attorney explains why Kingston’s ankle monitor was removed

Deputy County Attorney Courtney Sinagra issued a statement to KSL on why Kingston’s GPS ankle monitor was removed.

“The ankle monitor was removed because the defendant has been compliant with all pre-trial conditions and is no longer considered a flight risk. This is a standard part of the pre-trial supervision process. He is still not to be in Washington County, aside from court hearings, or to have any type of contact with the alleged victim,” Sinagra said to KSL.

Kingston, who turned 22 years old last week, arrived early before his scheduled appearance in court. He was wearing a navy blue suit and pants, with a yellow tie, at his first in-person court appearance. Kingston’s prior court appearances were held virtually via WebEx.

His lawyer, Tangaro, was sitting next to him.

Kingston was dismissed from the BYU football team on February 13.
