SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Utes offensive tackle Spencer Fano was named one of the nation’s top players at his position by the Associated Press.

He was one of two tackles placed on the AP Preseason All-America First Team.

The honors continue to stack up for Fano as he heads into year three.

So far this summer, he has been named to ESPN’s 2025 preseason college football All-America team, the Big 12 Preseason All-Conference team, the Outland Trophy watchlist, and the Lombardi Trophy watchlist.

Not to mention, ESPN NFL Draft Analyst Jordan Reid included Fano in the first round of his way-too-early 2026 mock draft.

Last season, Fano took 424 pass block snaps and only allowed one sack and two quarterback his. He also had a 93.6 run block grade.

Utah Football opens its season on Saturday, August 30, against the UCLA Bruins in the Rose Bowl.

Utah Spencer Fano Focused On ‘Getting Better’ Amidst Pro Hype

One of two preseason All-Big-12 offensive tackles on the University of Utah line, Spencer Fano is primed for a big junior season.

“I feel like every year I just have to get better,” Fano said of his goals. “I don’t think I’ll ever be a finished product. So I think the goal is every year just to get better. That’s been the goal this whole year.”

Fano brings a wealth of experience to the position with 25 games (24 starts) between left and right tackle. He was named to the AP All-American Second Team and the All-Big 12 First Team in 2024.

Expected Utah starting QB Devon Dampier’s game is built on elusiveness in the pocket. With an athletic playmaker in the backfield, Fano understands the job of protecting his quarterback may take a different focus this season.

“You’ve got to stay on your man 24/7,” Fano said. “Your guy goes outside, inside, it doesn’t matter if it looks like he’s out of the play. You just never know where Devon is. He’s such a good playmaker that he’s able to direct a lot of that. You just always got to stay on your guy no matter where he’s going.”

Fano believes Dampier will bring an added element of attack to Utah this season.

“He just makes us so dangerous,” Fano stated. “I do think we have a very good O-line, but the quarterback play can only make us better. If our quarterback is balling out, it can make our O-line look 10 times better than we already are. So, I feel like if he plays the way that he can, it just makes us so dangerous with our O-line, and him, and even our receivers are so good, our tight ends are good. But if he plays the way that we know he can play, because he can run the ball, he can throw the ball 60 yards, you know, he just makes us really dangerous.”
