Utah State Survives Upset-Minded Wyoming’s Late Comeback

LARAMIE, Wyoming – Utah State survives a frenzied second-half Wyoming surge to earn an important 85-83 win over Wyoming to remain atop the Mountain West standings.
The Aggies (20-3, 11-2 MW) faced the Wyoming Cowboys (13-11, 4-9 MW) on Saturday, February 7.
USU stays tied with San Diego State in the Mountain West Standings after beating the Aztecs and third-place New Mexico in the last week. The Cowboys are ninth in the conference, two games behind Boise State for a top-six spot.

Mason Falslev exploded for a game-high 27 points. The Sky View High School product went 10-of-14 from the field while adding six rebounds and five assists.
MJ Collins Jr. started slowly but scored 16 second-half points to finish with 20. Collins Jr. was a foul merchant, hitting 10-of-14 free throws.
The Aggies finished the night shooting 64.4 percent (29-of-45) from the field. USU shot the lights out in the second half, hitting 71.4 percent (15-of-21) of its shots.
Utah State outrebounded the Cowboys 28-27 despite giving up ten offensive boards.
First Half

Wyoming showed some fight early, scoring eight second-chance points off three offensive rebounds in the first four minutes.
The Aggies went scoreless for nearly four minutes, allowing the Cowboys to take a 13-7 lead into the first media timeout.
Utat State struggled to match the Cowboys’ intensity, committing five early turnovers.
The momentum flipped when the Aggies held Wyoming without a basket for two and a half minutes, going on a 7-0 run to capture a lead midway through the half.

The advantage ballooned to ten, forcing a Wyoming timeout with 4:54 left.
Momentum flipped after the timeout, with the Cowboys sprinting to an 8-0 run in less than two minutes.
Wyoming’s Adam Harakow traded threes with Mason Falslev to keep matters tight down the stretch.

USU managed to escape the opening 20 minutes, leading 39-35.
Falslev missed one shot from the floor, otherwise having a perfect first-half shooting performance while leading all scorers with 14 points.
Second Half
USU leading scorer MJ Collins Jr. scored eight quick points to open the second half after knocking down a pair of threes.

Nine straight made shots at one point helped the Aggies regain the advantage, taking a 69-61 lead into the under-eight-minute timeout.
Utah State opened the half, hitting 11-of-12 shots from the floor, and was 3-of-3 from deep and a perfect five-for-five from the free throw line.

Wyoming’s offensive attack fell stagnant against USU’s pressure defense.
The Cowboys used a final two-minute push to cut the deficit to five with 26 seconds left.
Following an Aggie turnover, Nasir Meyer crashed to the rim for an old-fashioned three-point play to make it 84-83 Utah State with 12.4 seconds left.
An intentional foul sent Collins Jr. to the line, but the senior guard missed the second free throw to set up a last-gasp possession for Wyoming.

Meyer’s floater caught the front rim before bouncing loose momentarily. Utah State took possession via a jump ball with only 0.1 seconds on the clock, making the 85-83 final score academic.
