Utah State Men’s Basketball Crushes Westminster In Home Opener

LOGAN, Utah – Year two of the Jerrod Calhoun era began with a 110-54 blowout win over Westminster as the Utah State men’s basketball team bested their SLC-based foe.
The Aggies opened their much-anticipated 2025-26 campaign against the in-state Westminster Griffins on Monday, November 3.
The 64-point win is the ninth-largest margin of victory in program history, and USU’s 32 assists were the seventh-most for a single game.

After struggling in the paint a year ago, Utah State controlled the interior action by outscoring Westminster 44-20 around the basket.
Fifth-year senior Garry Clark came off the bench to tally his 19th career double-double, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Clark made six of the eight shots he took.

The bench also showed spectacular depth against an overmatched RMAC opponent—the six Aggies off the bench combined for 57 points.
Senior Butler Bulldog transfer Kolby King made 4-of-7 from three to finish with 16 points.
“We want to be on the attack for 40 minutes,” Calhoun said after the win. “I’ve told this group that if we value the ball, they could be one of the best offensive teams in the country. You saw it, they really like playing with each other, they’re very unselfish, and we’ve got a lot of guys that can put the ball in the basket.”
MJ Collins Jr. falls just short of perfection in Aggie debut
The only newcomer to crack USU’s starting five on night one, Vanderbilt senior transfer MJ Collins made 9-of-11 shots, including five threes.
His intensity was visible on both ends as he introduced himself to the Spectrum faithful.
“It was amazing, just being able to feel like myself again. I first want to thank God, of course, my family, my teammates, and most importantly, my coaches for always believing in me and allowing me to go out there and just be a player,” Collins said postgame. “That was a great team win, and now we’ve got to look forward to beating VCU on Friday. We’ve got to wash our hands from this one, learn what we can learn from it, and get ready to focus on VCU.”

Collins ended the night with a team-high 23 points and showcased his athleticism on a one-handed slam early in the second half.
The 6’4 guard was a terror defensively, finishing with three steals. Collins added four rebounds and one assist in only 22 minutes.

Graduate senior PG Drake Allen led the team with nine helpers. 6’2 freshman guard Elijah Perryman followed him with eight assists in a spectacular debut.
Perryman ended his collegiate debut with ten points, three rebounds, and two steals while shooting 80 percent (4-5) from the floor to go with his eight assists.

Adlan Elamin looked out of place at times, but wowed with his length and athleticism at others. The Arlington, Virginia, native hit two threes and finished with 12 points in his college debut.
The 6’9 wing added two steals and two blocks to highlight his ceiling as an outside-in defender.
