LOGAN – The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Utah State Aggies in Week 2.

After a lackluster 29-17 season-opening loss to Idaho State, USU travels to Seattle to face the No. 19 Washington Huskies.

Utah State is 6-72 all-time against AP Top 25 teams and has not beaten a ranked program since toppling No. 19 San Diego State in the 2021 Mountain West Championship game.

Huskies earn Apple Cup win over Washington State

Once an end-of-season premier Pac-12 matchup, a Week 1 date didn’t seem to take any shine off the in-state rivalry as Washington prevailed 24-10.

The Huskies controlled the action, outgaining Wazzu 402-242 while averaging a robust 6.3 yards per play. UW scored on four of its six red zone opportunities.

Dual-threat quarterback Demond Williams Jr. was excellent, accounting for 329 total yards and two touchdowns. The junior completed 68.7% of his passes and kept the Cougars’ defense on its heels with 61 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Senior running back Jayden Limar added 50 yards and a TD on a team-high 12 carries.

Sophomore speedster Dezmen Roebuck caught a team-best seven passes for 41 yards, while Chris Lawson caught four passes for 87 yards. Rashid Williams‘ first touchdown of the year came on a one-yard strike midway through the final period.

Washington’s defense forced three turnovers.

Linebacker Jacob Manu led the team with 11 tackles and recorded one of three Husky sacks. Defensive backs Jeron Jones and Alex McLaughlin each intercepted a pass.

Washington’s glaring weakness was penalties. The Huskies were flagged 12 times for 130 yards.
